Investigation Report
Date: April 5, 2025
Location: Old Stone Jail, Cambria County, PA
Team Present:
Five investigators were in attendance. This is a relatively small site with a very open layout, and sound easily travels through the floors.
Environmental Conditions:
The weather during the investigation was rainy, windy, damp, and cold.
Ambient Noise:
The jail is located on a main downtown road, and outside noise was present throughout the night. A nearby bar across the street contributed to occasional loud voices and exterior disturbances.
Baseline Readings:
No unusual or elevated EMF readings were recorded during baseline sweeps.
Building Structure:
The basement/dungeon contains dirt floors, steep staircases, and narrow walkways. There are metal walkways throughout portions of the structure. Multiple roof failures allow wind and outside sound to penetrate the upper levels, which increases with elevation. The building is constructed of sandstone and currently shows signs of water damage and flooding in some areas.
This marked one of our final investigations of 2024 and our first investigation of 2025.
Evidence Collected
The dungeon triggered multiple devices simultaneously, including the MEL Meter, EMF detector, and a yes/no response box. While the activity was notable, the cause remains undetermined. We do not currently consider the evidence conclusive and plan additional sessions to determine whether this behavior can be repeated under controlled conditions.
Spirit box activity at this location is consistently high, though often to the point of overlap, making many responses difficult or impossible to interpret. Audio reviews reflect the same issue, with multiple voices speaking at once.
Two loud audio events were captured: what appears to be a female scream and, separately, a prolonged male scream. Several low-level electronic voice phenomena (EVP) were also recorded, most presenting as short, one-word responses.
A Luminol experiment was conducted in the cafeteria with permission. Under blacklight, multiple reactive areas were observed. Unfortunately, photographs do not capture the intensity or detail that was visible in person.
The most compelling evidence remains a repeated event recorded in the dungeon. A stationary camera captured the same occurrence both during this visit and one six months prior. At approximately 12:02 AM, a knocking sound is followed by a female voice uttering a three-syllable phrase that resembles “Who is it?” No investigators were present in the room at either time. Due to the consistency across two separate investigations, we currently classify this as possible residual activity and intend to focus future sessions on this specific phenomenon.
Conclusions
The Old Stone Jail remains one of our favorite locations, both for its history and its accessibility, and the staff continues to be exceptional to work with. Future investigations will center around exploring the Stone Tape Theory and attempting to document residual activity using multiple cameras and synchronized audio recordings.
This location continues to produce consistently intriguing results, and we look forward to returning.
